Last school year brought a new resource to Mattamuskeet School through the blessing boxes for food and personal hygiene items, with positive feedback. While it was halted for a while this school year, we are excited to get this program running again and are in need of donations! You may drop off donations in the main office at Mattamuskeet School or at the Extension center in Swan Quarter. See the flyer below for a list of needs. We welcome physical donations or monetary that can be used to purchase necessary supplies for our middle and high school students.

Many elementary school teachers already stock food and some personal hygiene items in their classroom closets for students who need them. They will now be able to pull stock from Ms. Tara Liverman’s classroom pantry or Ms. Stephanie Stewart’s elementary office, to help alleviate the financial burden of purchasing items with their own funds.

Middle and high school students may visit Ms. Taylor’s classroom for necessary personal hygiene items, including shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, feminine care, soaps, and more. There are also baskets with feminine care items in the female bathrooms in 600 and 700 buildings. These will be monitored weekly to replenish. Food items will be available in the small pantry box in the gym foyer for students to grab as needed.

These food and personal hygiene blessing pantry locations will be stocked fully by donations. We all appreciate anything you are able to give! When donating, we do ask that you try to provide items that are easily opened and transported in backpacks, such as pop-top cans, plastic jars, and individually packed items. We hope to provide more nutrient-dense options for the students with less sugar-packed snacks.

You may donate items as you wish or visit our Amazon Wish List for direct purchases or ideas. Shipped items may be sent to the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Hyde County Center, Attn: Mattamuskeet School Pantries, 30 Oyster Creek Rd, Swan Quarter, NC 27885. Contact Hyde County’s FCS Extension Agent, CatieJo Black, with questions: catiejo_black@ncsu.edu or (252) 926-5263.
